Question about Processing time - CPP Ottawa
Hi everyone,

Would someone happen to know what the current processing time is for CPP Ottawa to process an outland application and send it out to a visa office? Also, how is it decided which visa office will do the final processing (Detroit, NY, LA, etc.), and would anyone happen to know the average review times there as well?

My husband is Canadian, lives in Canada, and is sponsoring me, a dual citizen of USA and Bulgaria, living in USA. Below is an abbreviated timeline of our application steps so far -

- 2/15/12 - Married
- 4/3/12 - Application submitted to Mississauga (application included the medical test results, all required clearance certificates, and both fees - for sponsorship and PR)
- 7/6/12 - Husband received an e-mail from CPP Ottawa that his application to sponsor was approved

The status online for my PR application currently shows as "Application Received", and it only has the following 2 lines in the details:
- We received XXX's application for permanent residence on April 4, 2012.
- Medical results have been received.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I was wondering the same thing. It looks like we have the same timeline. Hopefully someone can give the answers. The waiting game is no fun! Good luck!

No one will know for a while, since CPP-Ott only started processing applications that would normally go to Buffalo a month ago.

RE: Question about Processing time - CPP Ottawa
There is no way to really narrow it down. It could take up to 2 yrs. However, it seems that many have been completed processing in about 6-8 months for Outland applications based on what I have been reading.
I am still waiting for those darn medicals to be confirmed as received and I started this process before you. So, don't worry. Don't let the waiting game get the best of you. This is my sixth month of waiting and I am doing my best not to let it get to me. Our application was sent to LA and according to the Sponsorship Approval email it was sent there based on the applicants address which i really don't believe because it doesn't make sense. I think it is a work sharing situation.

As a note, the website for any immigration stuff is usually not accurate or up to date so it doesn't surprise me it still says "received". Sometimes it will say that for months after approval. Different people working on different things, that's all.

In terms of the Ottawa processing..I have no idea. Good luck though.

Application for Sponsorship Sent to Mississauga CIC - May 29, 2012

Sponsorship Approval - October 10, 2012

RE: Question about Processing time - CPP Ottawa
Does anyone know how to find out there the application has gone to after Buffalo office had closed??? My application was being processed there, but I have not heard anything since April... just found out that Buffalo is closed and suppose that is why there is no word. I don't know where my application is at this point and what is happening with it. I am so worried now (((

12/28/11 PR application received by Mississauga
2/16/12 Spouse approved as a sponsor
3/28/12 CSQ requested by CIC
4/3/12 CSQ, Spose approved by Quebec
4/17/12 Application in process, Buffalo response to inquiry
Ecas shows medical records have been received
7/7/12 application transferred to Ottawa

RE: Question about Processing time - CPP Ottawa
Sounds like you are stuck around the same part of processing as I am. With the exception that I haven't seen confirmation in Ecas that our medicals have been received. The waiting is killing me!! But, I at least know that ours was sent to LA. That was written in our sponsorship approved email. I'm not sure if you can call or email them for that info.

RE: Question about Processing time - CPP Ottawa
Hello,

No update for me either... just waiting. Nothing new shows in e-Cas, but I know it is not frequently updated. People with similar or even shorter timeline on the forum already got approved. My application is with Ottawa and I hope it won't take too long for them to catch up.

RE: Question about Processing time - CPP Ottawa
Like someone else commented....ECAS IS THE DEVIL! Lol
I also check it almost every day with no update..not even a confirmation of medicals received.
However, I read that someone is ready to land with their application approved and everything yet Ecas is still saying Application Received. That's what mine still says. I'm going to stop trying to rely on Ecas and just keep my fingers crossed that somebody is doing something!!

RE: Question about Processing time - CPP Ottawa
Nope. Never noticed because I had surpassed that part of my application. But, that's great. Means bodies are back in the office and working. lmao
I did end up checking for processing times of Step 2 and noticed that they updated that part of the website to give times of the actual Visa offices which is great. They removed Buffalo. Step 2 for me is showing 10 months and that's consecutive to what i've already waited for Step 1. This really sucks. I am hoping that I fall into the category of several others and have this whole thing completed from beginning to end in 6-8 months....and I am starting my month 8 now.

They just updated ecas to be application in progress as of August 31st. (Told you the bodies are back in the office)

RE: Question about Processing time - CPP Ottawa
I have the exact same situation as you (identical). I called CIC earlier today and asked them the same question. The processing time for Ottawa cannot be determined but if you went through Missassauga and filed from 'outside' Canada (even if you live in Canada) the wait time is a lot shorter. However the CIC agent said it could take up to one year from the time your spouse got accepted as a sponsor. But, my immigration specialist said more like 6-8 months through Ottawa for family/spousal sponsorship filed outside Canada.

From 'inside' Canada, up to 12 months is what the guy told me on the phone today.

Hope this helps.

RE: Question about Processing time - CPP Ottawa
Sorry, but I would disagree with your specialist. What I see is that inland applications prepared to the degree required for an outland application (e.g., 100% complete including medicals) are obtaining PR as fast as the fasted outland applications.

The CIC website shows 6 months for stage 1 inland, which is about right. At the end of that six months you obtain an open work permit (and thus status in Canada) and for some people that is important - they're willing to wait for the 8 months it might take before getting PR. There ARE reasons to file an outland application, versus an inland application, but time to process it right now is not persuasive.

My application was filed in March, I was approved in late September and landed last month. I was part of the first wave of CPP-O applications and the first person I know to have landed (with unusual circumstances, so I'm definitely not the norm). So my total time was 6 months. I have already seen other inland applicants from March that have landed.

So for the fastest time it's about the same inland versus outland. For the posted (80%) time it's 14 months inland and 12.5-14.5 outland. I'd say that's roughly the same. When it was 19 months versus 11 months (early 2012) then yes, it made sense to focus on Outland. But things change.

FSW: App 6/09, reject 12/11, JR leave 7/12, discontinued 9/12
Spousal: App 3/12, sponsor approval 6/12, PPR 9/12. Landed 13 October 2012.
