I have had no luck finding work yet, and every time it looks like I have some sort of lead I end up not hearing back. Are there no manners here in Toronto? Or is it that I'm American? Cuz I'm seeing much more racial segregation than I've ever seen before, and I'm from SC!!!!! WTF!!
I just was interviewed at a temp agency last Thursday and was told I am 99% going to get the position and I may even hear back that day. At the latest I'll be called Monday. Well, NOTHING. Not even a call to tell me there is a delay or that I'm not selected. Not even a call to my references! How do you say 99%, and then disappear?
I think there are recruiting agencies out there posting fake positions. I am so pissed. I really distrust everything and everyone in Toronto. This is the level of professionalism I can look forward to performing? Wow, very unexpected.
Thanks for reading my rant.
The economy right now is bad, Ontario isn't the best place to need a job right now.
There are people who have been looking for 6+ months all over right now, its tough to compete in the current job market, so many people so few jobs.
Expecting Professionalism? In Canada? ... No chance!!
Let it be cell phone company or stores or Insurance stuffs or property management(housing)or whatever you call it.. I can't find any trace of professionalism..
BTW, I am from SC as well thou not American citizen... I have seen enough disappointments here in ON than anywhere... Its not just the job (b'se I found my job soon after landing way back in June 2007).. everything sux here..
Believe it or not.. In my field of work, I know a well established firm is getting sold soon/taken over by another & in the last few months this firm had laid off many of their employees. Still, when u log into job search sites, there r minimum 3-4 ads from them..
Have you tried contacting employment help centre?
Looks like lot of small firms have some sort of deal with these centres.. by which many new immigrants could find some entry level jobs..
but I have seen most of them coming thru Employment help centre ending up with a feeling of slavery at the small firm..
Wish you find something good enough quite soon.
Best of Luck
Try to hang in there, if you can this would be a good time to go back to school and upgrade skills into the medical field or another high demand field.
Seems both of you are in Ontario right now, and unfortunantly they have been one of the hardest hit during the down turn, 234,000 jobs lost since October, 9.4% unemployment, so your going to be competing with alot of people for any position you apply for right now, try to hang in there and not get too frustrated.
don't assume it is your country of origin, or that you did something wrong... it sucks out there period. It is amazing there are any job postings at all and AWA is right... there is some serious competition for the jobs actually available.
As for professionalism, I have never seen more cranky and anxious business owners in my entire working career. Survival is very stressful - as we all know.
