I originally became eligible for citizenship in January 2009, however during that time frame I was not employed and lacked the money for the fees.
I then had to move back to the US, and now I am moving back in the fall to Canada, however now I will not have the physical days requirements needed to qualify.
According to the calculator on CIC's website, using my move date of December 1, I will now qualify again in December 2013.
I do suggest as you never know what may happen down the road and while citizenship may not appear to be important and PR is good enough, you never know what the future brings, and you dont want to have to start the wait all over again just to apply.
I applied the day after I was eligible. I can never tell when my mother in law will try to have me deported again.
did she really try and have you removed? What a 8itch. I also applied within a few days.
Are you sure your time living in Canada previously doesn't count towards your residency requirement? I was sure it did.

According to CIC's calculator I move back to Canada as planned in December I will qualify for Citizenship in December 2013.
Come next month I will have been out of Canada for 1 year, and according t their calculator if I moved back by September 10th I'd qualify again next year but anytime after that it brings back a date of 2013.
This what their calculator brings back when I put in my info.
Whatever date you sign the citizenship application (let's say Dec 1, 2010) - they look back 4 years from that date, as you know during that time you have to have 3 yrs of physical presence.
So, if you come back on Dec 1, 2010 and apply that day - do you have 3 yrs total from Dec 1, 2006 - 2010?
I can't remember when you left ...

I moved last September.
Using the residency calculator I currently have 1,070 days physical residency, and if I returned to Canada tomorrow would be eligible October 14, 2010.
Now I can't move to Canada by tomorrow.
Put in a return date to Canada as September 15, then it returns:
According to the information you provided and assuming nothing else changes, you will accumulate 1,095 days of physical presence on 2011-09-25.
Now I am not moving until December 1, so this is what the calculator returns.
According to the information you provided and assuming nothing else changes, you will accumulate 1,095 days of physical presence on 2013-12-01
I really wish I could move by September 7th as up until that date I can still apply this year, after that date but still in September it says September 2011, anytime after September its 2013 of the month I return.
It was a big mistake on my part, and now I have to wait again.
send your application now! If you are still eligible! It does not matter if you are in the usa right now. It will take them 8 months to open it. By then yiou will be in Canada. Just call up and change your address after moving. They look at your time in Canada from today back!

I would but I only have 1,078 days physical days right now, of the 1,095 needed. I was going to mail it in earlier this year but was wary of doing so being outside Canada and never did, I have the stupid thing filled out and signed from back in like January, but never sent it in as I was not sure I could and then thought I'd be back by July and still have time, but it did not work out that way.
Live and learn I guess.
