Hey guys,

I was born in BC Canada. I grew up in Chilliwack actually.
I am in China right now for life brought me here. I married a Chinese girl and have been with her for over a year now. We have started the immigration process already but it will not be fully completed until September of next year. She is pregnant and i want to bring her to canada to have the baby because things are better in our country than in China. I was wondering if she has a baby before she has a green card and MEDICAL for that reason what will happen. That is my question.

I will likely bring her on a general visa in March or so. The baby will come in late July. If she has no medical coverage, will a hospital let her have her baby there? If so, will there be mega fines or something>? If Yes, would buying medical insurance before leaving cover any of these expenses?

Please let me know.
Thanks a lot!

First off, congratulations on the baby

Nest, I'm not sure how you can say

If you've already started the process, her medical should have been done before sending in the application.
As you are a Canadian born citizen, the child will be entitled to Canadian citizenship.
If you can get her here on a visitor's visa she can certainly have the baby in Canada, but you will be on the hook for all the hospital and doctor/midwife fees. On average, for an uncomplicated, routine delivery - you're probably looking in the neighbourhood of $10,000 - give or take a bit.
The chances of getting her here on a visitor's visa though are slim, especially whilst pregnant.
Most medical insurance that you would buy will not cover pre-existing conditions - and pregnancy is a pre-existing condition. Some won't cover even if it isn't pre-existing because it's meant strictly for emergencies.
