Full Version: So, it seems useless to contact CSIS though, doesn't it?

Just wait...
I contacted CSIS in December 2006, and found out they had completed mine in August 2006. They were very nice about it, and that gave me the information I needed to start looking somewhere else for the delay.
I agree with Catherine - it's really only useful to get one of the following answers:

- We haven't received a security clearance request.
- We have received a request, but it isn't finished.
- We received a request, finished it, and sent it back to CIC.

They won't tell you any details of the security clearance, but knowing where it is in the process can be useful. I found out they hadn't finished mine yet, so I had to just sit back and wait some more, but if they had finished, like in Catherine's case, I could have started pressuring CIC more as I would know they had everything necessary to finalise my case.

Matthew
I haven't gotten anything new on e-cas since November, and I've noticed people who sent their applications in a few weeks after mine have heard a little bit more......that their medicals were recieved. Should I be calling to see what's up?
Well, I had my FOSS Notes in Oct 2007. It shows CSIS was the only thing left for me since May 2007, anything else like Medical Check, RCMP check were done. And my last BF date was Jan 03, 2008. But still, nothing happened until today. So, I don't know what to do now. Call CSIS or order another FOSS notes? It takes forever.....
Write to CSIS. If they have finished the background check, you can then complain to CIC that they haven't made a decision yet. If they haven't finished the background check, then you just have to wait.

Matthew
did you call CIC call-centre after your BF date passed? they may be able to give you a clue as to where you are at (even though you need to take their advice with a grain of salt...)
Dear Jane
Just hang in there, try to be patient and if possible try to distract your mind a little bit from the process. Write to CSIS. It is not useless. Believe me, we've gone through the process of long security checks, which lasted for over a year.
Good luck
hello CatherineM

hello

on friday i called the CSIS in ottawa and asked for my background check information.
today i received a call from them. they told me that i have to fax to them my information, and they will answer me in 2 weeks.
Hi, thanks Ramina and other friends. I think I will call CSIS to say what is going on and will let your guys know the results.
Hi everyone, I've just joined the forum although I hardly consider myself a newcomer since I've perused these topics about a hundred times already. I"m sponsoring my husband and although the processing began in March 2008, we've been waiting since then for the elusive "background verifications". After visiting this and other forums, I finally decided to write a letter to the CSIS director but then didn't send it because I thought it might annoy people (I know, I feel I'm getting superstitious). Now I've decided to send it again -- as another act of desperation.

I'll fill everyone in on any results I get...
I got the response about 35 days after it was received by CSIS. I realize this isn't an active thread but in case someone reads it later on the letter was not very informative. Just that the security enquiries were still continuing.
Azadi,
Do you know when they began the background checks?
I was able to determine when they began the background checks because the Embassy started processing the application on March 16, 2008, and on April 2, 2008 my MP's assistant wrote to the Embassy about a status check and they replied that everything was complete and that the file was now undergoing background verifications. I don't think it tells you anywhere on CAIPS when the background checks start but in my case I was able to figure out that they were initiated sometime after March 16, 2008 and before April 2, 2008.
