So I finally heard something today after not hearing anything about my application since November. I got a letter in the mail saying that the Buffalo office has now sent my application to Detroit "In order to expedite the processing of your application". What's that all about? I've never heard of anyone's application being sent anywhere other than Buffalo.

I'm from Michigan originally, but still........Anyone have a clue or ever heard of this kind of thing before?
I may be wrong, but I think that Buffalo sends applications to other cities when they have too many applications piling up, and need to distribute some of the work load to other consulates. It is probably good news for your application! Maybe it'll get looked at faster in Detroit. My timeline is 2 weeks behind yours... maybe I'll see some action on my application soon also!
I can't remember who, but I think it was on the immigration.ca boards had their file transferred to Detroit as well.

Within a week or so their app was approved. I think you can call it a good thing that it was transferred.
I Believe It Was Prs And She Live In Pa And Hers Got Aaproved Two Weeks After Being Sent To Another Office.
The way Buffalo has been turning people down, it's got to be a good thing to be moved. I hope it isn't because they want to schedule an interview.
I agree with Catherine - I think you're very lucky your file went to Detroit! My understanding is that the only time your file stays in Buffalo, as a US citizen, is if you have legal visitor status in Canada for at least one year and you use your Canadian address as your residential address. Otherwise, your file gets transferred to the visa office that's closest to the US residential address you provide, or the one that you designate on your Interview Location Preference Form (Los Angeles, Detroit, Seattle or New York City). How I wish now that I'd used my US address and had my file sent to Detroit!
Thanks guys! This definitely makes me feel better. I'm really hoping, too, that they don't ask for an interview because flying home could be expensive, but I'm staying optimistic!
If they did ask for an interview - it would be in Detroit.
It was me whose application got transferred to Detroit. I received a letter in the mail about it being transferred on a friday(Dec 14), and the very next friday (dec 21) I received a letter saying they were ready to issue my visa. So, I would assume this is a good thing. I couldn't send my passport in immediately because I needed it to fly from Canada to the US after New Years. I sent the passport in last thurs (Jan 3) and I just received it in the mail today with the visa stamped inside. I'll be landing sometime during the week of Jan 21-25.
wow! congratulations, PRS! that's great news! Bliss
Thanks PRS.......That gets me excited to be checking the mail for the next few weeks. I can't wait to hear what happens!

Curious, did they update e-cas when they did this too?
I received my letter in the mail about the trasferring of the file 4 days before my Ecas was updated with this info.

I received my letter in the mail about my visa being ready to be issued on Dec 21st and my Ecas was just updated this past week with "decision made."
Not for me, nope. There has been no change on e-cas since it said they started processing the app on November 29th.
