A Charlottetown family faces being broken up this week after the father confessed to immigration authorities he lied to get into the country in 2002.

Am I a bad person because I have no sympathy here? I feel awful for his wife and son, but come on... I think his wife is really brave for getting him to pony up to his mistake, but I don't think she was expecting the deportation order.

I must be an awful human being for thinking this, but I really hope there is no special treatment here. We have to show people that following the rules and regulations should be the preferred way of getting into Canada, not bogus refugee claims or lies.
I guess I feel bad about the wife and son, but that guys should know better about misrepresentation. No one likes to see a parent separated from their child though. This proves why people need to be so careful with their applications. If you aren't careful, this very well could happen to you!
The deportation has been stayed, pending his appeal: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/prince-edward-i...ml?ref=rss

If the law permits an appeal, I have no issues with deportation being stayed and let the system decide whats best.
I posted my comment to that site. He should have to return home and pursue this through the legal means just like all of us have had to do/and are doing.
Or they should allow him to start the paperwork here, but enforce the same rules that everyone else has to abide by through the process...no working, no schooling, etc.

He is not the first to be able to stay in Canada while the appeals process does its thing and wont be the last.

The law obviously must allow one to stay in Canada or else they would not allow it.

Many people stay in Canada during various stages in their immigration process and an appeal is part of the process.

Yeah he lied, but the system is there for a reason, so let it do its job.
