You'd think after 3 weeks, and almost 70 resumes sent out by email/fax/in person there would be one interview..
Nothing. Not even an email or acknowledgment.
Not fun time out there right now at all if you need a job.
Let me know if anyone hears of hiring in Chilliwack...:)
3 weeks isn't long. It took My GF 5 months to get her job. not a good time at all.

If you count the time I wasn't looking and living off other funds, its been about 4 months total since I worked last.
Its just frustrating sometimes where interviews are completely non-existent as well, but I lack any marketable skill in a bad economy, so I guess it makes sense as to why I haven't had an interview.
A friend of mine in NYC has been out of a job since Feb 2008 so...13.5 months now. This is after working for the same place (a major newspaper) for almost 12 years.
He job though utilized a narrow set of skills though, so...don't know what he's going to do
He's been pretty lucky that unemployment benefits in NY have been extended a few times - he collected his 26 weeks, then had...I think 2 - 13 week & a 7 week extension - am losing track.
A friend of mine in FL, the company she worked for closed up their office suddenly about 2 weeks before Christmas. They got some piddly severance and of course she qualified for unemployment - but max u/e in FL is like $215/week whereas in NY it's $405.
She found another job (same line of work, not as great remuneration) and started Feb 1 this year.
I'm glad I'm not in a position to have to be looking for work and that my guy's business, while not "recession proof" - is doing pretty well and allows us to live without worrying "too" much about money, although we live pretty frugally for the most part.
I applied for a student loan through the government, I dont have high hopes it will provide much, but figure its worth a shot. Better to be a student then unemployed and doing nothing.
I have had no income for 4 months now, and have no assets like last year, so maybe Ièll qualify for enough to cover some living expenses after tuition is paid.
Is it even possible to find a job in Canada? x.x
I just started like a week ago, hard core trying to find a job...meanwhile, hubby's freaking over all the bills...and he's the only one who's able to pay them. ._. I've been a free-loader for almost 2 years. In my case, finding a job is so much harder than immigrating. It's nice to be here, but if I can't find a job soon, I'm tempted to just go back home and start working at my old job again...send money once in a while...so frustrated, and it's only been a week. I was so naive to think it wouldn't be this hard... Almost no experience and no degree to back up anything...gonna be tough. Good luck finding a job, and sorry for whining...I know you all have your own problems to worry about.~
Sigh...5 months to find a job, eh? :shakehead
Depends where in Canada one is, BC and Ontario have been taking a hit the past few months with job losses, Alberta and SK and Manitoba have been fairing a little better, the far eastern provinces typically have had poor employment even in good times, and I have no idea about Quebec.
There is just a lot of competition out there and employers have a lot of choices right now, and tend to go with those with lots of experience and/or degrees vs those without.
Depends what field one is in as well, healthcare workers can find jobs pretty easily still, but for those like myself with no real skills or formal education/training there is not much demand.
Some say I am picky, but if looking for work at gas stations, retail, and food service is picky then my definition of picky must be wrong..
Hang in there.:)
This is really amazing to me because around North Van it seems like there are lots of jobs. My mother in law works for BCAA and just said there are some job openings at ICBC and places like Indigo are hiring (my father in law got a job there within a week of applying).
Keep at it AWA1979 there's gotta be something.

Its worse out here in Chilliwack, we are at a 12.5% unemployment now, our closest city is Abblotsford, 30km west where the unemployment is 6.9%.
Our rate has gone up 4% since January.
I applied for a student loan to try and go back to school and they are processing it, hopefully next week I'll hear something back from the province.
I need enough to cover the school costs and basic cost of living, so I am not sure if its much of an option, but was told to try by the career counselor.
Yes, I do need to move, but moving costs money, so its not an option at the moment.
Are there student jobs you could get on campus? I worked at the computer lab at MU in Ohio while I was attending, the pay was crap but it was something.
I went to a job fair the other day, well about a week ago for a hotel that is being open soon, well its not a new hotel but it changed hands and is being rennovated and changing brands.
Anyhow, they are looking to fill approx 80 positions.
They had an ad today thanking those who attended, they had over 450 people apply for 80 positions....
No wonder its so hard to actually get interviews these days...

For summer I am doing distance learning so no campus, but the school I am going to in the fall currently has no on campus positions planned for students for the Fall 2009 term.
Its a small college, not large at all and has a small staff, 1 counselor, 1 financial aid counselor, and generally only 1 or 2 people in admissions.
The cafeteria is contracted out to a 3rd party vendor.
